Welcome to Hastings Charter Township
Hastings Charter Township lies near the center of Barry County and surrounds the city of Hastings on three sides. Back in 1842 the entire northeast quadrant of the county was designated Hastings Township. It was subsequently divided into the present day townships of Hastings, Carlton, Woodland and Castleton. In 1985 the township became chartered.
Hastings Area School system serves most of the township's population. Within the township are three major state highways (M-79, M-37, M-43) offering excellent transportation capabilities. The township is privileged to be home to the beautiful Charlton Park which features a premier museum/vintage re-created pioneer park setting. Barry County’s Thornapple Manor (aka Medical Facility) is located within the township and is just off M-79 by the McKeown Bridge Park. The Hastings Public Library provides the township residents a library card for no fee as the township currently assesses a library millage. The township is divided into two County Commissioner districts, Howard Gibson serving District 1 and Ben Geiger serving district 5. A seven-member township board governs Hastings Charter Township. The Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and Trustees all work cooperatively with one another to implement their respective statutory responsibilities and to address the non-statutory obligations and opportunities that are integral to effective Township governance.
As a member community of Barry County we want to reach out to all resident and recommend they take the Barry County Master Plan survey to get your opinions included in the update. Click here for the link to the survey barrylivebetter.com
